After construction and refurbishment

Post-construction cleaning for an orderly handover

After construction, refurbishment or renovation, coordinated cleaning stages prepare areas for inspection, furnishing and use. The scope and timing depend on the progress of the works and the type of residue.

Purpose and benefits

From construction progress to a ready-for-use handover.

Depending on the project, interim cleaning, final builders' cleaning or several coordinated visits may be appropriate. We establish which trades have finished, which areas are accessible and what standard is required for handover.

Scope of service

Possible stages of post-construction cleaning

The relevant stages are selected according to the construction status and are not automatically treated as one package.

01

Rough builders' clean

During or after individual construction stages: remove loose debris and agreed non-hazardous waste to clear areas for subsequent work.

02

Interim cleaning

Between trades: remove new soiling from selected areas and prepare them for further work or inspections.

03

Final builders' clean

Once building work is complete: thoroughly remove construction dust and suitable residues from accessible floors, surfaces, fittings and sanitary fixtures.

04

Handover cleaning

Immediately before inspection or occupation: achieve the agreed final condition, including removal of dust accumulated since the previous clean. This may coincide with the final builders' clean.

Planning and process

Define the construction status and responsibilities

Construction sites change quickly, so timing, access and interfaces with other trades must be agreed before the service.

Important for a realistic assessment

Hazardous materials, undeclared construction waste, trade repairs and rectification of material damage are not standard cleaning services and require separate clarification.

  1. Step 1

    Check progress

The relevant work must be complete and the scheduled areas accessible.

  2. Step 2

    Identify residues

Types of soiling, sensitive materials and possible specialist cases are assessed.

  3. Step 3

    Define the handover standard

We record which areas should be delivered in which condition.

Construction stage and surfaces

Each cleaning stage needs a clearly defined handover condition

Post-construction cleaning can be planned reliably when trades, access, residues and sensitive new surfaces are assessed in advance.

Define the stage

Rough, interim, final and handover cleaning are agreed as distinct service stages.

Assess surfaces

New materials, protective films and typical construction residues are considered before treatment.

Clarify interfaces

Responsibilities, site prerequisites and the required handover condition are documented.

Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions about post-construction cleaning

These answers provide initial guidance. The agreed scope is always defined for the individual site.

01What is the difference between rough and final builders' cleaning?

A rough clean primarily removes loose heavy dirt. Final cleaning prepares completed areas for inspection, fitting out or use to the agreed standard.

02When should final cleaning take place?

Once the main trades have completed their work and the relevant areas can remain accessible. Later trade work may create a need for another visit.

03Do you dispose of construction waste?

Agreed, clearly identified non-hazardous loose materials may be included. Hazardous or undeclared waste and larger disposal tasks require separate arrangements.

04Can paint, adhesive or mortar residues be removed?

Only where the material, surface and suitable methods allow removal without damage. Persistent residues should be assessed before quotation.

05Can we inspect the completed work together?

Yes. For larger projects, a documented site walk-through helps identify the agreed areas, any visible outstanding work and existing construction-related damage.
